The Experience

You front a live band.

Put your name on the list, take the stage, and sing with drums, bass, keys, and guitar playing behind you — live musicians following your lead.

Swabbies On The River.

Swabbies is a Sacramento landmark for a reason: an oak canopy, the smell of carnitas on the grill, and a wooden outdoor stage looking out over the water. We bring our full live setup right onto that stage so you get the real feel of fronting a band.

You don't need to be a professional singer. Our hosts are warm and relaxed, the crowd of regulars is already singing the chorus with you, and the lyrics monitor is bright and easy to read. Grab a Pacifico, pick a song, and make some noise.

How to join the show

Pick a song

Browse 200 songs on your phone or flip through the binder by the stage. Rock, country, pop — the band has rehearsed all of it.

Put your name down

Find the host near the stage and sign up. Duets are welcome — grab a friend, grab two mics, share the spotlight.

Feel the kick drum

When your name is called, step onto the stage under the 60-foot oak trees and let the live band drive the rhythm behind you.

House Rules

A few simple ground rules keep the rotation fair and the night moving. Signups open at 5:30 PM — getting there early is the best way to lock in the song you want.

01

One song at a time

Put your name down for a single song. Once you've sung it and stepped off stage, you're welcome to get back in line for another.

02

Sign yourself up only

Everyone puts their own name on the list. No signing up for friends, partners, or the table behind you.

03

Pick from our song list

Choose one song from our 200-song catalog. The band plays what it has rehearsed, so your pick has to be on the list.

04

Requests are for future shows

Want something we don't have yet? Send a request. The band has to learn the material first, so we can't play an off-list song on the night — but it may land on a future setlist.

05

A spot isn't guaranteed

Signing up doesn't lock in a slot. That's why you want to get there early — signups open at 5:30 PM, right before the 6:00 show.

06

The order can shift

Song choice, an upcoming break, or a guest judge taking a song can shuffle the rotation. The host reshuffles names as needed to make sure everyone gets a turn before the night ends.

07

Claim your song first

Before you sign up, make sure no one else has already picked your song. If someone sings it before you, the host will give you a chance to choose another — one more reason to show up early.

Bottom line: get there by 5:30, pick a song that's on our list, and the host takes care of the rest.

The mic is wired. The beer is cold.

Pick your song and we'll see you at Swabbies on the 3rd Tuesday of the month.
